Dear Resident

  • M74 WEEKEND CLOSURE J4 MARYVILLE TO J5 RAITH – 18 TO 21 NOVEMBER 2016

  • DEMOLITION OF BOTHWELLPARK ROAD BRIDGE OVER M74 BETWEEN RAITH J5 AND BOTHWELL SERVICES

  • NO PARKING RESTRICTION, MAIN STREET BOTHWELL, FROM 5PM FRIDAY 18 TO 6AM ON MONDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2016

Scottish Roads Partnership is responsible for completing the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project on behalf of Transport Scotland.

We are writing to inform you of major weekend works and traffic management on the M74 between Junction 4 Maryville and Junction 5 Raith, scheduled from 8pm on Friday 18th to 6am on Monday 21 November 2016 inclusive.

These works are required to demolish the old Bothwellpark Road Bridge over the M74 motorway near Junction 5 Raith.

As a result, the M74 will be closed in both directions between J4 Maryville and J5 Raith, from 8pm on Friday 18th November, to 6am on Monday 21st November 2016.  In addition, Junction 5 Raith on-slip and Bothwell Services will also be closed for the weekend.

We appreciate the above works will be disruptive and will temporarily increase noise levels in your area during the course of the weekend, when the mechanical demolition of the bridge will take place.

We would like to reassure you that we will utilise best practice methods of working where possible to keep this disruption and disturbance to a minimum.

In addition, South Lanarkshire Council has promoted a temporary ‘No Waiting Restriction’ on Main Street, Bothwell, for the duration of the weekend works, from 5pm on Friday 18th, to 6am on Monday 21st November 2016.

As a result, parking will NOT be permitted on a short section of the south side of Main Street, Bothwell during the times stated. This restriction applies from a point 9m south east of Blantyre Mill Road to the pedestrian crossing approximately 20m east of Bothwell Post Office.

It is requested that local businesses, residents and regular users of Main Street, Bothwell, refrain from on-street parking as outlined above as traffic flows are expected to be significantly higher than normal as road users seek alternative routes to the M74 other than the designated diversion routes.

The weekend closure of the M74 will result in significant disruption to north and southbound traffic on the M74 on approach to the closure, as well as on the surrounding local roads.

Major delays are expected on the diversion routes and road users are advised to plan their journey and allow extra time.

If possible, road users should AVOID the surrounding area or use an alternative mode of transport.

All works undertaken are subject to consultation with South Lanarkshire Council and the Local Authority Environmental Services before being implemented.

Yours faithfully
